Privacy policy
Your financial records stay on your Windows machine.
Centsmith is built around local files, optional feedback, and a small set of services needed to process payment, host downloads, and receive messages.
Effective June 03, 2026
Summary
Centsmith is a local-first Windows desktop app for importing statement files, sorting transactions, viewing spending, and exporting records. The app stores your financial data locally on your computer. Centsmith does not run a cloud account service for your transaction data.
Information the Website Collects
The Centsmith website provides product information, release notes, paid checkout, protected downloads, and an optional feedback form. If you submit feedback, you may choose to provide your name, email address, and message. Feedback form submissions are processed by Formspree.
Like most websites, the hosting provider and third-party services used to process payments or serve downloads may receive standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, timestamps, and basic device or network information.
When you buy Centsmith, checkout and payment details are processed by Stripe. Centsmith stores limited order fulfillment records such as the Stripe checkout session, payment status, customer email when provided by Stripe, temporary download-link metadata, and the update license token issued for the purchase.
Information the Desktop App Stores
The Centsmith desktop app stores imported transaction data, categories, settings, app database files, and a shell debug log on your local Windows computer. In packaged desktop mode, these files are stored under your Windows application data folder (%APPDATA%\Centsmith\).
The desktop app does not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry.
Centsmith does not upload your imported bank or credit card statement data to a Centsmith server.
The desktop app uses a session cookie for local authentication between the app's interface and its backend service. This cookie is used only for communication with the local backend (127.0.0.1) and is never sent to any external server.
The app's interface is rendered using Microsoft's WebView2 runtime, a component provided by Microsoft. WebView2 may be subject to Microsoft's privacy practices.
Downloads and Updates
Centsmith release notes may be displayed from the public Centsmith releases repository on GitHub. Paid installer downloads and licensed update checks are served through protected Cloudflare infrastructure after Stripe checkout. When you download the installer or when the app checks for updates, the relevant hosting and distribution providers may receive standard request information needed to serve those files.
How Information Is Used
Feedback information is used to respond to messages, investigate bug reports, and improve Centsmith. Payment and order records are used to process purchases, issue temporary download links and update licenses, email purchase fulfillment details when email delivery is configured, handle refunds or support requests, and prevent abuse. Technical logs from website hosting, protected downloads, Stripe, GitHub, email delivery, or Formspree may be used for security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and service operation.
Sharing
Centsmith does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers used to host the website, process payments, handle feedback, send purchase fulfillment emails, and distribute downloads and updates, including Cloudflare, Stripe, Resend if email delivery is enabled, Formspree, and GitHub.
Your Choices
You can use the desktop app without creating an account. You can avoid submitting feedback through the website if you do not want to provide contact information.
You can remove local Centsmith app data from your computer by deleting the Centsmith application data folder (%APPDATA%\Centsmith\) after uninstalling the app. This folder contains the database, session key, and shell debug log.
Security
Centsmith is designed to keep your transaction records local. The packaged Windows app stores its session-signing secret using Windows user-scope DPAPI encryption. No method of storage or transmission is perfect, but Centsmith is intentionally designed to minimize server-side collection.
